====== Tagging about linux desktop apps ======

Got tagged by [[http://demod.org/blog/2008/05/i_got_tagged|demod]] and [[http://varuolo.tumblr.com/post/35714236/meme-your-favorite-desktop-linux-software|varuolo]]((I'm tempted to create a graph out of those cross-tagging round-robin issues today ;-))):

I fear I won't introduce much new noteworthy software, but here are my choices nevertheless (in no particular order):

  * [[http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/|Firefox]] -- my favourite browser, the extension system is the reason it hasn't been overtaken by [[http://www.opera.com/|Opera]] to this date on my list
  * [[http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/|Thunderbird]] -- mail client
  * [[http://www.eclipse.org/|Eclipse]] -- what would a Java programmer do without it? I use it for pretty much anything remotely resembling a larger project as well though
  * [[http://thunar.xfce.org/|Thunar]] -- filemanager
  * [[http://synergy2.sf.net/|Synergy]] -- software kvm-switch... somewhat. I [[blog:2007:10:a_quick_recommendation|blogged about it]] some months ago :-)
  * [[http://www.pidgin.im/|Pidgin]] -- Multi-Protocol instant messenger (I still have important people on my ICQ buddylist and somewhat don't like those gateway thingies...)
  * [[http://www.xchat.org/|XChat]] -- for my IRC needs
  * [[http://www.gimp.org/|GIMP]] -- everyone needs an image manipulation tool, might as well be a good one ;-)
  * [[http://www.inkscape.org/|Inkscape]] -- if SVG comes out and wants to play
  * [[http://jabref.sourceforge.net/|Jabref]] -- bibtex bibliography management for my research
  * [[http://freemind.sourceforge.net/|Freemind]] -- mindmap tool, use it for quite a lot of stuff these days
  * [[http://www.gnome.org/projects/tomboy/|Tomboy]] -- desktop-wiki thingy
  * [[http://gttr.sourceforge.net/|GnoTime]] -- Timetracker
  * [[http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/|Unison]] -- Syncing tool
  * [[http://www.virtualbox.org/|VirtualBox]] -- for when I need a virtualized version of "the other OS"
  * [[http://code.foosel.org/colorname|colorname]] -- you won't believe it, but I actually use it ;-)
